It's rewarding

I've not updated this blog for 10 days!!!

It's been a frenzied time for me. Feverishly promoting the school holiday camps. Runing north, south , east and west asking people to sponsor 15 less-priviledged teens so that they too can attend The YES! Camp which was held on 2 - 4 Dec 2009 (Wednesday to Friday).

It's already 1st Dec and with 4 more teens left unsponsored, but I knew somehow, someone will help us pull through. Amazingly (but not surprisingly), it happened! Thank you to all my good friends who either sponsored a teen (some even sponsored 4!) or heped me get the word out!. Indeed there are many great amazing people out there!

Someone asked... why am I doing this? Honestly, I'm not making tons of money from these camps (yet), but I do it because I really really enjoy it. I enjoy seeing the awareness and understanding dawning in the kids eyes. I enjoy seeing them come out of their shell and start opening up. I enjoy pushing them to their limits and have them succeed.

There were many participants who were initially not happy to be there. They were forced by their parents, or by their guardians(in the case of some of the sponsored teens)

There was this girl.... she was sulking. She was not happy to be there. Everything is boring for her. On the last day, she was smilling and high-5-ing her new friends. And she wrote "people are not that bad... i just have to give them, and myself a chance". That's great isn't it?

Another said "Now I appreciate all that I have. I will be more positive from now on, and not complain just because I don't get my own way."

Yet another, "I have been to many camps, but this is the best camp ever!!"

Out of 29 participants, all (but 1) had an amazing time. I'm not making this up. I've proofs!! I actually recorded them saying these! And I have it in writing too!!! Ask to see it if you want!

So... one did not enjoy himself. He felt that the camp was 'military' and he did not come to camp to be 'tortured'!!! He told me personally that he hated the camp. (But yet, during graduation time, when we gave out the certificates, he said that he had a great time.) Oh well.... you can't please everyone!!

I'm happy.

UPSR Results were out last Thursday (19 Nov).

As expected - 5As for both Damian and Marcus. (out of 87 students, 19 of them got 5As.)

Now we can all relax. The weeks before the exam.... the weeks after the exams.... were pretty torturous for Damian , and me! Damian - because that's Damian la. He allows his imagination to run wild with 'what ifs'.
What if he wrote the wrong thing,
what if he accidentally shade the wrong box,
what if he calculated wrongly.

And torturous for me - coz - he keeps 'what if-ing' with me!

One of his teachers was telling them about a student who didn't get the results she expected and she killed herself! I told Damian (the day before the results were out) that if he kills himself, I'll kill him!!!

So... UPSR so important meh? 5As so important meh?

On results day, one of the boys were seen with his fingers crossed, eyes screwed shut and chanting to himself "Pls let me get a C! Please let me get a C!" (He was expecting a D for his BM paper!)

Another boy who was totally not expecting it, continued to stare off into space when his name was announced as amongst those who has gotten 5As!

A girl cried coz she worked so hard for her BM, score the A, but then scored a B in another paper!

Seriously ... how important are the As? Yes, of course it's great to have, but seriously.....does it really determined our kids future?

Stephanie and Josehine is now worried that they can't get 5As. I always told them.... no need to compete with kor-kor. Be the best they can be. Always either do better or maintain their own standards. Good advice? And when they've tried their best (and don't get an A), I really think they deserve a reward for their efforts.

Chefs in the Making

I have been now maidless for more than 2 months!! Really really tough. But now getting the hang of it. It ain't that bad. I got part-time cleaners, at least. But I'm tied down - can't go out as and when i like - can't go hospital anytime to help someone to breastfeed, making apppointments for fitline in the mornings, then have to rush back to cook and get the kids from school

Kids got it tough too. They've learned how to wash plates properly, sweep the floor, fold their clothes and put them into their proper place in the closet and cook!

Damian cooked this Fried Rice (a bit wet tho) - I just gave verbal instructions and he did everything. The orange? His idea. he even cut them himself.

This dish was cooked by Josephine - all by herself, without me standing next to her!

Not having maids can be a blessing in disguised.... but I still want one!!! I think I can 'see ' one coming soon! ;-)

UPSR tomorrow

Finally, UPSR is just hours away! Damian has been counting down since the beginning of the school year and as the days pass, he got more and more tensed. We kept telling him to relax, but he seemed unable to do that. He tells me that everytime he thinks about UPSR, he gets stomach-ache and his heart beats faster.

Well... he doesn't excatly bury his nose in his revision books. In fact, I think he reads more story books than he does his school books. And he always gets good results - well, most of the time anyway, except for BM Pemahaman paper. That's the paper he's most worried about.

Hmmm.... we didn't have UPSR back then. We has something called 'Assessment Exams' in Standard 5. I was so lost during those primary years. I went to school one day and found out there's an important exam that day! Hahaha. I bet my brainy friend SY was prepared ages ago! (I mentioned SY here before.) I turned out ok. Didn't ace every subject, but I turned out ok.

But I know Damian will be ok. He'll get his 5A's.

What's the big deal about A's anyway?

Happy Teacher's Day

Kids' school celebrated Teacher's Day today. There are about 40 teachers in the school. Amongst my 4 kids, there, there are 20 teachers teaching them. So, that means - I have to get 20 presents. Every year we give each teacher something. This year we got them this:

Ok-la, cheap and useless - just what the kids like and what the teachers expected!

Oh, they were also selling flowers in school so that those who didn't bring a gift can buy one - to raise funds for the 'Special Education Program' (a regular school program for those mentally challenged students). But i find this weird (or 'tasteless' is the correct word) - like imposing on the kids to get gift for the teachers.

Damian was asked to play a piece on the keyboard. He couldn't choose between Beethoven's "Fur Elise" or "Mamma-Mia". I told him to do "Mamma-Mia". He ended up playing 'Sonata' or something, after which he admitted didn't sound so great on the keyboard. (see, should have listened to your Mother!)

Oh, Damian also won 3rd prize in the Wilayah Teacher's Day Writing Competition. A total of about 50 schools participated. He collected his prize ($30 and a certificate) yesterday(Thursday) at Stadium Tititiwangsa, where the Territory's Teacher's Day celebration was held.

And then the day before (Wednesday), Damian participated in the inter-school Kuiz Kesihatan (Health Quiz). Team of 3 students. They scored the highes in round one (written quiz), which qualifies them into the finals (oral Q& A). It was very close, and they came in 2nd. (Only 2 marks short of the school in 1st place (SK Methodist 1). They were disappointed, but we (adults) assured them that it was a very great effort for their first time participation.

Opps, supposd to be about Teacher's Day.... as usual I digressed. What to do, bragging about my son is more interesting.

Anyway... Happy Teacher's Day!

I need more than 24 hours a day!

There's not enough time for all the things I have to do!!! Today, I did the following:

1. Get kids ready for school
2. Walk them to school (hopefully new maid can help me out here in near future)
3. Restocking the fridge and food cupboard
4. Exercise
5. Answer emails, check facebook
6. Update websites
7. MSN or yahoo-chat with some friends :-)
8. Keep in touch with cutomers
9. Answer at least 3 calls a day relating to Breastfeeding
10. Make at least 3 calls a day for Fitline
11. Meet prospect and make a presentation
12. Deliver products to certain consumers so that can keep in touch with them (build relationship, not becasue I like being a delivery-man)
13. Cook 2 meals a day (Thank God I don't have to wash up)
14. Supervise/teach kids homework
15. Take the kids cycling, at the same time, walk the dog
16. Break up fights among kids
17. Threatened Jeremy with bodily harm (like 100 times a day!)
18. Hug Stephanie 1,000 times a day (must squeeze hard! - so exhausting!)
19. Talk to Jo so she doesn't feel neglected
20. Assure Damian I believe he'll get 5A's (he believes too - just need daily motivation)
21. Make sure the new maid eats!
22. Prepare Happy's food
23. Make sure the kids don't kill the hamsters
24. Read books (I'm reading Gandhi, The Princess Diaries, St Therese of Lisieux, the Feb issue of Reader's Digest at the same time)
25. Think of new ideas to promote my biz
26. Update accounts for income tax
27. Pay credit card bills
28. Update my blog!

My eyes closing now. Got panda eyes. Must sleep. Anthony's in Penang for work, so I'll have the whole bed to myself (that is - if none of the kids crawl in in the wee hours of the morning!)

So, you can see... I'm mighty proud of myself!! Hooray! No longer confused! Am a top-notch web-designer! Hahaha!

Star Cruise on SuperStar Virgo

I know I'm supposed to write about Jeremy next, but I just feel like writing about the Star Cruise instead.

Hubby and I qualified for our FitLine sales incentive Trip - 4 Nights/5 Days Star Cruise on SuperStar Virgo. We left on Sunday (8 March) and just got back today. A total of 58 Achievers qualified for this trip. Our itinerary:

8 March

Left Port Klang by bus to Singapore at 5am! (We were in Port Klang by 3.45am!). Boarded the ship @ 12.30pm. Our room is so small. Lucky it's twin sharing. Some of my friends have to share 4 to a room!

I was the emcee for Fitline's Congress on Cruise :-) It was great witnessing my teampartner-downlines receive their Achievement Awards. Cindy Wong won the Top-Sponsor Award (a Sony Ericson handphone - wow!) and the Sponsoring Incentive Award (a limited edition Fitline watch). Husband & Wife team - Chua and Agnes - won the Top Quick-Start Sponsoring Award (an Acer laptop) and also the Sponsoring Incentive Award (the limited edition Fitline watch)

9 March

The ship arrived at Penang. While most decided to tour Penang, Anthony and I decided to stay on board and explore. Ended up, we 'explore' most everything in an hour! Hmm... what did we do? Just spend some time with friends and teampartners. Swim, Spa. Watch live shows. The food and the shows were good.

10 March

Tour in Phuket! We were taken to this very expensive shop selling various Thai goodies. Then to a jewellery factory where we 'dream' about buying all those lovely pearls, and garnets, and sapphirres etc. My fav is amethyst. After that we visited the cashew nut factory. Then to Lunch. I was looking forward to a Thai lunch, but instead it was international food. Ceh!

After Lunch we were taken to the biggest shopping mall in Phuket! Everyone was telling me that Wacoal bras are cheap-cheap. But no my size! I was looking forward to a good Thai massage at Patong Beach, but no time! Instead went on a mad-hunt for souvenirs for the kids! I'm sure we got fleeced, but never mind la.

Gala Dinner with the Captain. Where's the captain? I didn't even see him! But we all look great! We were served pre-dinner cocktail. Got a bit tipsy from the champagne.

Big boss also gave us a treat to Vegas-style Topless show by artistes from Ukraine and Belarus. It was so boring that I nearly fell asleep. No acrobatics, no magic... only dancing, and lots of bare skin. We noticed some men with binoculars in the audience!

11 March

Fitline Farewell gathering. I was Emcee again! Exciting listening to so many Achievers sharing their testimonials and experiences. Very motivating. I love MLM. This is THE business that celebrate success which is achieved by helping others achieve their goals and dreams

Some of the Fitline Achievers disembark in Singapore today. The rest of us free and easy. Swim, talk, eat, karaoke and disco till the wee hours.

12 March.

Missed breakfast. Woke up too late. Have to pack. We arrived at Port Klang. Time to go home.

So, what did we do the last 5 days? Just relaxing. Really didn't do much. I talked to other passengers. Being a networker, we can never stop talking and making friends. That's how I qualified for this trip anyway!

There were almost 3000 passengers on the cruise. Most people are interested to know a little more when I give them my name card. Hee-hee, some of my downlines and sidelines even asked for more of my cards so that they can give it away (with their names and contact numbers written on it too la, of course!)

Will I go on another cruise? Yeah, why not? It's good to just do nothing but relax. Next time... must bring my kids along.
