"What's your favourite subject?"

Was supervising Jo and Jeremy while they're doing their homework.

Jo's doing Math (which she insist she does not like)
Jeremy's doing those tedious writing exercise again (where you've to write "Bapa" like 10,000 times!)

Suddenly Jo asked, "Mommy, what's your favourite subject in school when you were my age?"

Oh, what shall i say? Truth is - my favourite subject was 'RECESS'. The fun we used to have: chase someone and pull her hair until she cries, make someone give you a sweet she just bought, stare at SY until she offers you her delicious homemade peanut-butter sandwich (or was that AST?) or just run around like a mad-hatter!

Oh, but I digress... i can't very well tell my kids the above. I've an image to upkeep you know.

"So, Mommy, what's yr favourite subject?"

How could I tell them that I made the teachers cry because I call them names, refused to do my work and walked out of their boring class, only to be hauled back by my ear. Should I tell them that my English teacher Mrs C, always peg my book at the back of my pinafore with big red "TERRIBLE HANDWRITING" slashed across it, and I wore it triumphantly?

Hmmm.... i think we were in Std 4, and I scored a C in History because I copied! And I remember looking at SY's papers (she got an A, of course!) and there's this name - Alfonso D'Alburqueque - and I was green with envy because she could spell such a fantastic name.

I was 'lost' throughout my primary school years! The best I could do with Math is to memorise the 2 times table!

"Mommy!! What's your favourite subject?"

"Errr...... i think .... " (My mind working furiously on how to motivate her without giving away too much of my 'history')

Suddenly Jeremy piped in "I think Mommy is so old she cannot remember when she was in school!"

Ok... that's as good an answer as any! Thanks!

Go Get It! Period!

One of my favourite movie is "In Pursuit of Happyness".

It’s a great movie starring Will Smith as Chris Gardner.Always hard working and tenacious, a series of circumstances in the early 1980’s left Gardner homeless in San Francisco and the sole guardian of his toddler son. Unwilling to give up Chris Jr. or his dream of financial independence, Gardner started at the bottom.

Without connections or a college degree, he earned a spot in the Dean Witter Reynolds training program.Often spending his nights in a church shelter or the bathroom at a Bay Area Rapid Transit station in Oakland (that scene moved me to tears!), Gardner was the sole trainee offered a job at Dean Witter Reynolds in 1981.

"You got a dream, you gotta protect it. People can't do something themselves, they wanna tell you that you can't do it. You want something? Go get it. Period" Chris Gardner to Jr.

I urged you to go get a copy of this most inspiring movie. You'll understand....

My new website

Whoppeee!!! I've just built my own website! It's http://www.breastfeeding.weebly.com/

Weebly allows you to quickly and easily build your own website and to host it with them for FREE.

I've always been confused navigating the wold of websites, web hosting, domains etc. I've been intrigued, but all these words are 'martian' to me. I'm the type of person who only cares that when I switch on my laptop, it's working and can get connected to the internet.

So, you can see... I'm mighty proud of myself!! Hooray! No longer confused! Am a top-notch web-designer! Hahaha!

Cikgu Boleh!!

I was looking thru Stephanie's Science notebook. I found this:

Just in case you can't read the above,

The following table shows the total armspan used by different students to measure the length classroom

(table)

2. State an inference can you make the table above?
Differents people have differents arm span

3. What keep the same?
The type of measuring

4. What keep the change
The total of arm span.

5. What is observed
Measuring the classroom

She copied the above from the blackboard! Now, just in case you think perhaps Stephanie made some mistakes while copying it, I checked it against her friend's book. Guess what? Ya... same mistakes!! Yes, even down to the missing questionmarks! (No, they're not sitting together).

They also told me that the 1st question actually originally was:

1. Who will be first finish measuring the length classroom

The monitor just walked up to the blackboard and corrected it.

What did the teacher do? He just laughed and said "Sorry ya, Cikgu tak pandai bahasa Inggeris la!"

I'm worried.... I'm very worried........

Scratch & Win Scam

Had lunch with a friend the other day. After lunch, as we were walking to her car, we noticed 3 very excited young people gathering around a professional-looking man in a business suit. Immediately we knew that this is the 'scratch and win scam' in action.

They were talking rather loudly, exclaiming "Wow, you're the first person we know who win so big! You must take action now to claim your prize!"

The professional-looking man also got very excited. He was like 'Wow, amazing, amazing, Nothing like this happened to me before. How to get the prize?" *eyes rolling* will people never learn?

We got into the car. I've known this friend of mine to be rather shy and quiet, so what she did next almost knocked me off the rockers! She drove her car right up to the group of excited people, rolled down her window and yell "Hey stupid, this is a scam! You never read the papers ah?" And before they had any chance to respond, she drove off!

Wow!

What came over my friend? Her hubby was the victim of such a scam. Lost $5ooo+ and in return, got a house full of low-quality appliances.

Well... there are still so many gullible people around .... and if we, (like my friend) can come out of our shells and attempt to alert an innocent (tho gullible) person, we could (and should).

I don't know if that professional-looking man did get conned. I hope not!

License to Drive

I was exasperated with Jeremy over his constant whining and his refusal to do the things he ought to do.

"Arrggghh… stop! You’re driving me up the wall!!!!" I yelled

Jeremy gave me a defiant look and yelled back, "Where got?!! I don’t even have a driving license!"

How to remain angry with a boy like that?

Spring Cleaning

I received this in the email, and I really like it:

Last Week I threw out worrying,
It was getting old and in the way
It kept me from being me;
I couldn't do things God's way.

I threw out a book on MY PAST (Didn't have time to read it anyway).
Replaced it with NEW GOALS, Started reading it today.

I threw out hate and bad memories, (Remember how I treasured them so)?
Got me a NEW PHILOSOPHY too,
Threw out the one from long ago.
Brought in some new books too, called I CAN, I WILL, and I MUST.
Threw out I might, I think and I ought.

WOW, you should've seen the dust.

I ran across an OLD FRIEND, I hadn't talked to in a while.
His name is GOD the Father, and I really like His style.
He helped me to do some cleaning and added some things Himself.
Like PRAYER, HOPE, FAITH and LOVE,
Yes... I placed them right on the shelf.

I picked up this special thing and placed it at the front door.
I FOUND IT- it's called PEACE.
Nothing gets me down anymore.

Yes, I've got my house looking nice, Looks good around the place
For things like Worry and Trouble there just isn't any space.
It's good to do a little house cleaning,
Get rid of the things on the shelf.
It sure makes things brighter;
maybe you should TRY IT YOURSELF.

BE BLESSED AND BE A BLESSING TO SOMEONE ELSE!!!!

Bless someone. Keep the Faith!

Ignorance!

I am a breastfeeding consultant and advocate. I received this sms just now:

"I don't understand. Why majority women around me against breastfeed. Some comment milk formula better than breastmilk. Some said breastfed not good for mother healthy. They said my wife not strong enough for breastfed. Breastfed wil cause my wife not get enough sleep, indirectly affect her health in future. Some said my wife milk less quantity and quality. All of them are women. I really not understand!"

This was from a new-daddy of a 3 week old baby. From day 1 he has been very supportive of his wife, very encouraging, and I know his wife really appreciates him. They both want to give the best to their baby and know that breastfeeding is the best. Unfortunately the confinement lady they hired has been very negative about breastfeeding. All people around them were not supportive.

The doctor told them baby's not putting on enough weight and advised them to switch to formula! They called me. I checked the WHO growth-chart for breastfed baby and discover that the weight gain is right on target!

IGNORANCE!!!

While breastfeeding might not be the best for every parent, it certainly is the best for every baby! And it's so sad when the parents wants to breastfeed, has sufficient milk to breastfeed, they were discouraged from doing so! Ignorance!

Ignorant and negative family and friends can certainly add lots of stress on the new parents.

So....my plea to those of you who might have friends or family who are pregnant and intended to breastfeed - PLEASE ... if you have nothing nice to say about breastfeeding - just keep your big mouth shut!!!!
